TEST--Are You Going to Heaven?

heaven or hell

Do you think that if you were to die today you would be received into Heaven? If you’re not sure, then it’s time to get right with God. If you do, why is that?

Look at the list below and take a moment to see if you can pick the right Bible answer(s)
for why you think you are going to Heaven:
  1. ☐ I go to church
  2. ☐ I help others and have done good things
  3. ☐ I keep the 10 commandments
  4. ☐ I believe in God
  5. ☐ I’ve done more good than bad in my life
  6. ☐ God accepts everyone into His kingdom
  7. ☐ All roads lead to God, and I’m on one of the roads
  8. ☐ I’ve said enough Hail Marys to qualify me
  9. ☐ I pray
  10. ☐ Other____________________________

If you answered anything from 1-9, this will NOT qualify you for acceptance before God according to the Bible. If the right answer did not immediately come to mind, I sincerely doubt you are currently “qualified”.
According to the Bible, there is only One way to enter God’s kingdom and that way is……..to be perfect. That’s right perfect!-- 100% sinless!

All of us on this planet have sinned--Romans 3:23. God will not accept sin in His presence (Psalm 5:4), so we need to somehow be cleaned spiritually. The ONLY way this happens is by understanding, believing, and accepting God’s ONE special message to mankind.

God's Story

In the beginning God created a perfect world and Adam and Eve had a beautiful relationship with God. They had a choice to obey or reject God, and they chose to reject Him by eating of the tree He commanded them not to eat from. In doing this, they obeyed Satan—the highest ranking fallen angel- and a spiritual and physical disease eclipseentered humanity which the Bible calls sin. This severed the perfect relationship between God and man, and even entered into the natural world—now everything wears out and dies.

Adam and Eve’s choice to sin broke their perfect relationship with God. They were expelled from God’s presence, and since you and I are descendants of Adam and Eve, we inherit their problems: separation from God, an inclination to do evil in God’s sight, and finally death. This is why there is evil and suffering in the world.

Because God knows the future, He had a plan to fix this problem even before creation, and He gradually implemented it after Adam and Eve’s fall. At the right time, the center of God’s repair plan took place. This happened when God the Son emptied Himself of His power and glory and became a man on earth—Jesus Christ.

He lived perfectly according to all His Father’s rules as given in the Bible, and at the right time He voluntarily gave himself to an excruciating and horrifying death—death on a Roman cross.

God had caused the Jews to see this event in advance in the Jewish ritual sacrifices of taking a lamb or other animal and sacrificing it. The blood and death of the animal was showing that their guilt was being put on the animal instead of the man or woman for a substitute punishment. The sacrifices that they did over and over again were a teaching from God that sinning brings death, and without blood being shed, God will not forgive. God was eventually preparing a Person, not an animal, to be a substitute for us so we could be cleaned spiritually and forgiven. This Person was…..Himself!
rope

God is a being of TRI-UNITY (3 in 1) also known as The Trinity. Like a single rope with 3 strands, God is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit--Distinct Persons, but one in essence.  If God is so awesome that he created heaven and earth, then what is the make up of the very fibers of His being like? Obviously it is incomprehensible to us, and the bible reveals He is a 3 in 1 being. We are also 3 in 1-- body, soul, and spirit. We are made in His image.

The heart of what Jesus did was to suffer punishment—the punishment we all deserve—in our place, and become a kind of substitute like those animals!

As Jesus was dying on the cross, we read that the sun somehow stopped giving its light for 3 hours. There was also an earthquake! You see, so much was happening that day on the cross, that God the Father caused Earth and sky to bear witness to the importance of this event!

Jesus was buried, but then something incredible happened. He who claimed to be God the Father’s Son, the Messiah, and God Himself, came back to life!! He showed that He was so powerful, that He could rise from the dead! You see, this was a voluntary set of actions planned out long ago by God to solve the problem that started with Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. Since Jesus died in our place, He essentially “purchased our ticket” to Heaven! He took our punishment for us as a substitute.

One EXTREMELY important thing Jesus said is that HE is The Only Way to Heaven. There is no other belief that will get you there period. He said "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6) Buddha, Mohammed, generic spirituality, etc. will not save you.

In order to receive personally what Jesus did for you, you need to:

1. Believe—did what you just read concerning Jesus ring true in your heart? If so, then you believe! (John 11:25-26)

2. Come— to Jesus in prayer by acknowledging you have sinned and believe He’s God’s Son. (John 5:40)

3. Repent—Repent literally means "to turn". You need to turn from your old lifestyle and point yourself in Jesus' direction. Confess to Jesus that you have sinned and ask Him for forgiveness. At this point, He then “gives us the ticket”, and we are then qualified and adopted as God’s children because of what He did! There is nothing we can do—other than repent, believe, and receive this free gift that God’s Son Jesus purchased for us. (Luke 13:3, John 1:12)

If you truly believe this and ask Jesus Christ to forgive you and come into your life, He will! You should then begin serving him and doing good things, but good works are THE RESULT of getting right with Him, not THE REASON we become right with God. There is a big difference between thinking we have done something to earn our way to acceptance with God, and just accepting and believing in His free gift and provision. Also, a casual prayer with no real fervency or real intention will not save you. If you truly call out to Him with your whole heart and soul, you will be saved.

Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived, said this:

“He who conceals his sins does not prosper,
but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy
Proverbs 28:13

Ephesians 2:8-9—The Free Gift Scripture:

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—
not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
